The now established notion of a field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) had not yet emerged, and Science or Society? was produced under the twin rubrics of Ôlabour process theoryÕ and Ôcultural materialismÕ. Thirty-five years later these remain viable as theory-of-practice for science-and-society activists.
