Q: What is Celox-A used for? A: Celox-A is designed for penetrating trauma—narrow, deep wounds like gunshots, stab wounds, and industrial punctures where you can't effectively pack standard gauze. The applicator delivers hemostatic granules directly to the base of the wound channel.
Q: How is Celox-A different from Celox Gauze or QuikClot? A: Celox-A uses an applicator syringe to deliver granules deep into narrow wounds. Celox Gauze and QuikClot Combat Gauze are hemostatic-impregnated gauze rolls for packing larger wounds. Use Celox-A for deep, narrow penetrating wounds; use gauze for larger wounds you can pack by hand.
Q: Does Celox generate heat? A: No. Unlike some older hemostatic agents, Celox does not generate heat during the clotting process. This makes it safer for patients and reduces risk of thermal injury.
Q: Does Celox work on patients taking blood thinners? A: Yes. Celox works independently of the body's natural clotting cascade, so it's effective even on patients taking anticoagulants (blood thinners) or those in hypothermic shock.
Q: How do I use Celox-A? A: Insert the applicator tip into the wound channel as deep as possible. Depress the plunger to deliver the granules to the base of the wound. Apply direct pressure for 3-5 minutes. The granules will absorb blood and form a gel-like clot.
Q: Does Celox-A expire? A: Yes. Check the packaging for the expiration date. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
